Who Knew? Apes Can Swim and Dive, For the first time, researchers have documented a behavior that had been thought unnatural, if not impossible: apes swimming.The scientists captured on video two examples of apes that could swim quite naturally. The first was a young chimpanzee named Cooper, who not only figured out how to swim but could also dive underwater to retrieve items from the bottom of a swimming pool."We were extremely surprised when the chimp, Cooper, dived repeatedly into a swimming pool in Missouri and seemed to feel very comfortable," Renato Bender, a researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, said in a statement. "It was very surprising behavior for an animal that is thought to be very afraid of water." [8 Humanlike Behaviors of Primates]The second ape was Suryia, an orangutan living in a zoo in South Carolina. Suryia was recorded swimming about 39 feet (12 meters) without assistance. Both apes use a modified breaststroke to navigate, which sets them apart from other mammals (including humans) that usually dogpaddle when forced to swim.

J.A Happ got beamed in the face in the Blue Jays and Rays game

No longer do you have to scroll to page 338 on Ceefax to find the most bizarre rumours from questionable sources, they are all over the web, print and overheard in the Fox and Hound where the regular who knows “Christopher Samba’s uncle” can tell you about the goings on at Loftus Road.Worryingly for Premier League executives it is three of it’s superstars that will be on the radars of the world’s superpowers this summer as for one reason or another they are being linked away from their current homes.Here we will try to use an iota of common sense to predict the whereabouts of these three players rather than the pure speculation plucked out of thin air by lazy journalists under pressure for the next big scoop.....Wayne Rooney - Manchester UnitedArguably the most naturally talented footballer to grace Ol’ Blighty since a certain Paul Gascoigne, Wayne Rooney has been a superstar of the Premier League since he burst onto the scene with THAT 30 yard curling effort past David Seaman as a raw 16 year old. But Rooney has had his fair share of controversy over the years as has been well documented, a lot of which can be put down to rash decisions both on and off the pitch.Is his latest rash decision is wanting a move away from Old Trafford another rash decision? Is United’s loss someone elses gain? Do we see Wayne and Colleen fitting in with the aristocrats in Monte Carlo, discussing Proust with the Parisians or even being able to order a milkshake in a McDonalds in Madrid?His latest decision to want a move isn’t the first time the short-tempered striker has decided his future doesn’t lie in front of the Stretford End. If you believe what you read he wasn’t far from crossing Manchester ala Tevez back in 2010. Time and trophies seem to be the greatest healer.The timing of this particular transfer request is very interesting, especially given the managerial changes happening at Old Trafford with the man who gave Rooney his league debut as the manchild a decade ago, David Moyes. A lot has been written about a libel dispute but common sense dictates that assurances from Moyes to Rooney that he will command a starting spot in his plans would certainly appease the Croxteth lad to some extent.The crunch tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League this year may well have been the tipping point for Rooney. Having been left on the bench in favour of Nani and Welbeck it would seem the self-proclaimed ‘Big Man’ had his nose put out of joint so to speak. Incidentally Nani was one of very few who managed to prove a Ferguson decision wrong later in the piece, ironically with a reckless challenge one would associate with a young Rooney.Previously he could handle Cristiano Ronaldo taking all the plaudits, he played in a different position and Rooney was a completely different player. The introduction of Robin Van Persie, the man who pipped Rooney’s 27 Premier League goals the year before, now meant the 27 year old was not first choice. Especially not first choice when in a two-legged European affair. Think back to Ferguson’s penchant for starting Park Ji-Sung on a big European night.The list of clubs who would be interested is long but the potential list of suitors for both parties, when analyzed, is fairly short. Let’s see how quickly we can debunk every club linked with him in a couple of short paragraphs...Arsenal - It has to be seen as a major step back going to The Gunners. 16 points in the league, 9 trophies at United since Arsenal’s last one. Although Gazidis has come out to the media saying they have major money to spend this is something Arsenal fans have heard before. Fans would also argue there isn’t much previous of breaking a wage structure to pay a player 2 and a half times their highest paid player neither.Chelsea - The Blues need an out and out striker to play in front of their young and quite brilliant threesome. Edinson Cavani looks like the man that will fulfil that role. The man who plays the second striker role has been the player of the year for the past two seasons and is an absolute genius. Juan Mata.PSG - The best bet if he is to leave Manchester. Rooney and his family would be able to live a lower profile life with the media, he could match if not raise his pay packet and would form a technically brilliant strike partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one which would certainly please his sponsors. That said you just get that feeling, an inkling, that Rooney wouldn’t want to take his family so far away from his roots in Liverpool and moreover you get the feeling that this particular Scouser isn’t about to join Ligue 1 and start quoting Nietzsche in a dodgy french accent.So this obviously means Wayne Rooney is staying at Manchester United.... you heard it here first. Although logic isn’t prevalent in the modern day game, staying is quite clearly the obvious choice. He has been with United and been a star for the past 8 years, he has won countless trophies and developed as a footballer. This development that you can see continuing at Old Trafford, more than likely in a deeper role in the midfield. If Giggs and Scholes can play in deeper roles in their late 30s and 40s, then a 27 year old Rooney, with a passing technique, eye for goal and work rate of the highest order can surely be moulded into a midfielder with bounds that only his desire defines.Now Rooney has made some questionable and impulsive choices in his lifetime. Whether it be stamping on Montegrans, an awful follicular unit transplantation or his idea of a good massage parlour. All these decisions, admittedly less frequent these days, can be forgiven every time he wields that majestic right boot and clips a crossfield, grass snipping ball across the Old Trafford turf or scores an important wonder goal. Whether they admit it or not Manchester United need Wayne Rooney and Wayne Rooney needs Manchester United and it won’t be long until they are playing happy families all over again.

He considers this difference as a personal attack. He is astonished that the whole world is not Muslim and he is going to correct [this mistake].The following op-ed was originally published in French in the Algerian newspaper Le Quotidien d'Oran. Translated by Anna Mahjar-Barducci It is not going to stop, [instead] it keeps on reproducing itself in the cities of the Sahara, it becomes vocal and shouts, then kills, taking you by the throat; it destroys giant Buddhas and [people's] bodies and advances like a desert that dries out even the desert itself: salafism/Islamism/fundamentalism, the cancer on the face of the world and on the will to live. All this no longer obeys the ancient forms of the threat: it is no longer a brigade, a group or a front, but a sort of tumor: it may swell under your armpit or on the streets of London. It kills; we then arrest the killer, but we do not stop the disease. We kill the hostage taker, but not the malignant cell. And it has a banner, a sort of skein of darkness, that is waved in the dry and dead wind of a theological infinity. It is everywhere and it is like barbed wire running over your bare skin. Everywhere, as the living dead himself explains: "It is Allah who says that Sharia should be implemented." And "in Islam there is no democracy, for that would mean that people have the right to challenge Allah and to decide in His stead. This is inadmissible and one will not allow this heresy, may God protect us." Who is speaking? A dead cell, convinced that God spoke to it and that it has the right to infect a world that shines and replace it with a world that kills. Unbelievable: at first, one might think that Islamism is an ideology, a policy or a line of thought. This is a simplistic point of view -- political orthodoxy, conventional wisdom and ideas. No, we must also see through the prism on biology: It is a disease, which intends to devour the world, it is not an issue of faith and belief. A salafist man is not looking for God, but in the dark, he is after your throat. He believes that the whole world must believe the way he does and, if it does not, it is the whole world that is 'sick' and must be brought back to the right path. By persuasion or by blood. The salafist man finds it unbelievable that there are people who do not think the same way he does! He considers this difference as a personal attack. He is astonished that the whole world is not Muslim and he is going to correct this. First of all, we must stop talking about ideas: It is a disease like the Plague in the Middle Ages. It is the disease of the century, but without poetry. It is a pathology against civilization. This disease will stop only when the whole world will be a total tumor. This is what is threatening the future and frightens people down to their bowels. What eventually arrives are wars, massacres and slaughters against our children, who will have to fight a war of survival against the black flag, which is not the symbol of a "nation," but the end of nations and of the earth. For [the Islamists] all look alike, as, in general, corpses do: from Yemen to Mauritania, from London to Australia. Same hirsute look, same crazed eyes, same surreal sales pitch, same signs and anger and same convulsions of the body inhabited by a demon made of ink and verses. And all this proceeds from south to north, from your neighbors towards you. This accursed Salafi flag everywhere wants men to prostrate themselves, and explains what is right, that God has spoken, that the earth is the booty of heaven. A terrible and murderous world which intends to kill us all: us, our children, light, art, hope, freedom and the dignity of questioning. This is not a pessimistic view, just a glimpse of what is coming: salafism/Islamism/jihadism is a disease that wants to destroy the world. We must see it and treat it as such. The black flag is the abscess under the armpit of the those who are plague-ridden. A sign of death. You can never have too many London quotes by Arthur Machen (1863-1947), he had a great appreciation for the mysteries to be found in wandering the streets of the city.
